Digital life has made contact effortless. But it has not made good conversation any easier to find. Many of our social environments have become passive, hurried, or transactional. We enjoy an abundance of places where we can consume, network, scroll, or perform, with few occasions to simply gather with our neighbors around things worth talking about in places worth being in.
The Salon begins from the premise that leisure, hospitality, and substantive conversation belong together. A shared table, good food and drink, a compelling speaker, and local guests willing to participate can create the conditions for genuine encounter.
Historically, Salons gave such encounters a concrete form. Arcata draws from that tradition to create places where people can drink, dine, and discuss the important ideas of our day.

Salon gatherings are organized around timely and timeless questions spanning culture, governance, economics, technology, and the enduring concerns of human life. Contributors are chosen not merely for what they know, but for their ability to lead conversations within their community.
Beginning with our 2026 Summit in Bozeman, the Salon is already taking root. Our aim is not a succession of one-off events, but a recurring local culture of hospitality, inquiry, and spirited fellowship.
